Hiya, Pal!
I'm absolutely delighted to welcome you to planDisney! It sounds like your visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth is right around the corner...how exciting is that?! The days leading up to a Disney vacation are always so special, and I'm glad to be here to help as you get ready to make some unforgettable memories.
I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter injured her ankle...that's definitely a bit of a Bibbidi Bobbidi bummer! But hakuna matata...it really does mean "no worries!" The wonderful thing about Walt Disney World is how incredibly accessible it is, so navigating the parks with a wheelchair is no problem at all. With a little pixie dust and some helpful tips, your family is still set to enjoy the most magical vacation ever!
You'll have a couple of options when it comes to
renting a wheelchair. Each of the theme parks, water parks, and even Disney Springs offers rentals on a first-come, first-served basis, and you can take care of that right when you arrive for the day. The current cost is $12 per day.
If you're staying at a Disney Resort, you might find it even easier to rent a wheelchair from Disney's featured provider, ScooterBug, or another third-party vendor for the length of your stay. The best part about ScooterBug is that you don't need to be present for delivery. The wheelchair will be dropped off at
Bell Services, and you can pick it up whenever it works best for you. When it's time to return the rental, simply drop it back off at Bell Services, and they'll handle the rest.
Now, let's chat about
Disability Access Service (DAS). This program is specifically designed for Guests who, due to a developmental disability, aren't able to wait in a traditional standby line for long periods of time. DAS isn't intended for mobility-related needs.
Walt Disney World is incredibly
mobility-friendly overall. As a wheelchair user myself, I can honestly say it's one of the reasons my family keeps returning year after year. The parks, resorts, transportation, and even most attraction queues are designed with accessibility in mind.
Before your trip, I definitely suggest downloading the
My Disney Experience app to your mobile device. Under "Accessibility and Health Services," you'll find a section for Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities. It's packed with useful tips and info to check out before your visit...and it's super handy to have on hand when you're exploring the parks, too.
I hope this information helps and that you have the most magical visit to the most magical place! If any other questions pop up as you continue your planning, you're always welcome as can be here at planDisney!
Magic and Memories,
Kami
