Welcome to planDisney, Leslie! I'm so glad to answer your question today. This is such a sweet idea and an awesome grandparent move! Time with your grandkids at Walt Disney World is super magical, and I'm excited to hear that you're planning on gifting them a whole year of magic and special time together.
You can absolutely buy
annual passes for your grandkids, but what type they can have depends on where they live. If your grandchildren do not live in Florida, they are not eligible for a
Florida Resident annual pass, even if you live in Florida yourself. Florida Resident passes are exclusively for people who actually reside in Florida.
Minor children don't have to show photo ID as
proof of residency, but the person purchasing the Florida Resident pass has to acknowledge and confirm that the passholder is a Florida Resident. In other words, when you buy a Florida Resident annual pass, you're acknowledging that the person whose name is on the pass truly lives in Florida. If your grandchild lives out of state, that requirement can't be met for them.
What you can do, though, is buy them a Disney Incredi-Pass, which is the annual pass available to out-of-state guests. You can purchase it for them, have it linked to their
My Disney Experience profile, and then they can activate it on their first visit by tapping into the park or stopping by a ticket window. From that point, they'll have a whole year of magic from that activation date.
I hope this answers your question, Leslie, and please let us know if you have any more questions about planning Disney magic with your grandkids!
