For a larger travel party over 5, do we need to book through an agent?

    Hiya, Katelyn!

My family often engages an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner when booking our Disney Cruise Line vacations. We appreciate the thoughtfulness and care our planners have provided us. We have also booked Disney cruises for our family of six without the help of a travel planner. It's really up to you for how you feel most comfortable with your party's travel plans.

If you are having trouble finding availability for a Disney cruise itinerary, perhaps the strategies we use for our larger family can help. On most Disney Cruise Line ships, the majority of the staterooms may accommodate only four or fewer Guests. Staterooms that may be booked for five or more Guests tend to be somewhat popular. If booking a single stateroom together is a priority, it may be helpful to book as soon after new itineraries are announced as possible.

When we booked our first family cruise (an amazing adventure to Alaska) we were initially dismayed to find that staterooms that could accommodate our family of six were either not available or were simply beyond what our budget could support. I'm glad we didn't give up! It took me a while to come to the understanding that our adventures on the high seas would be unique when compared to our travels on land. When we visit the Disney theme parks, we are used to finding a larger hotel studio room or suite that can fit us all in one room. While a cruise ship is sort of like a floating hotel and entertainment venue, their stateroom designs are typically unique when compared to destinations on land. With the unique designs of cruise ships can come unique ways of approaching vacations with a larger party.

In our case, we discovered that it was not only OK to simply book two smaller staterooms instead of one larger stateroom, but it was actually great! With two staterooms (which might even be adjacent staterooms with connecting doors between them) you tend to have more space overall when compared with a single, larger stateroom. You also have what I think of as the ultimate feature for large travel parties: double the number of bathrooms! Especially with Disney Cruise Line's innovative split bathroom design available in the "Deluxe" stateroom categories, you'll enjoy a rather luxurious experience with four private spaces for members of your party to use. We find that perfect for getting ready in the mornings or changing for activities like swimming.

I hope you have a wonderful time on your Disney cruise, Katelyn. If you have any more questions about getting ready for a Disney Cruise Line vacation, we'd love to hear from you again.
