We are Magic Key holders for Disneyland and are planning a trip to Disney World. I wanted to use our current MagicBands for Disney World. Is there a way to unlink it from Disneyland, Link it to our DisneyWorld account then relink it later to Disneyland

Hi John, and welcome to planDisney. As a Disney World Annual Passholder, I’m excited to hear that you’ll be visiting us at the Most Magical Place on Earth this September!

I’ve been using my MagicBand+ at both Disney World and Disneyland recently, so I’d be happy to help with your question.

In my experience, you don’t need to unlink your MagicBand from a Disneyland ticket or Magic Key pass to link it to a profile in the My Disney Experience app (the app used at Disney World). But there is one big difference at Disney World that’s important to keep in mind. Once you link a MagicBand to a specific profile in the My Disney Experience app, it can’t be transferred to another person. You can have multiple MagicBands linked to one profile (I like to coordinate my MagicBand to my outfit or the park I’m visiting that day!), but once it’s linked to your profile, it’s yours forever…. at Disney World that is!

At Disneyland, as you may already know, you can assign MagicBands interchangeably to different tickets or Magic Key passes through the Disneyland app. And you'll still be able to do that even if you assign a MagicBand to a profile in the My Disney Experience app for Disney World.

So let’s talk about using your MagicBand+ in Florida! Similar to Disneyland, MagicBands can be used to scan into theme park and Lightning Lane entrances (don't forget that your Lightning Lane booking window is different at Disney World), play Batuu Bounty Hunters, and link PhotoPass pictures. I’ve found that there are often more PhotoPass photographers and Magic Shots at Disney World, so be sure to stop and take lots of pictures to commemorate your visit. My family loves the Tiny World Magic Shots and Super Zoom Magic Shots since they're so unique!

And if you’re staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, you can also use your MagicBand to open your hotel room door and pay for purchases throughout the theme parks and resort hotels!

Like at Disneyland, MagicBand+ sprinkles a bit of extra pixie dust during rides and nighttime spectaculars. But they also interact with the gold Fab 50 Character statues you’ll see throughout all four theme parks.

I’m wishing you the most magical visit to Disney World this September! If it's your first time at the Most Magical Place on Earth, be sure to pick up a complimentary First Visit button. You can get it at many gift shop cash registers and at resort hotel front desks. And if you have any other questions, you’re always welcome at planDisney!
