We are planning a cruise from Port Everglades in Jan & March...we are flying into Orlando and driving to port everglades. Is there a location to drop the rental car or do I drop it off at FLL? Once I do how do I get to the port?

    Hiya, Julie!

Welcome to planDisney. It's a pleasure to help a fellow Guest with your Disney cruise planning. Our family has a land and sea vacation booked that is similar to yours. We'll be starting at Disney's Contemporary Resort and ending on a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. So we are also sorting through similar plans for how to pick up and drop off our rental car as well as get to and from Port Everglades.

First, I recommend taking a look at the Port Everglades website, which is linked from the Port Addresses & Parking page on the Disney Cruise Line website. In particular, look for the "Getting Here" section under the Cruise area of the website. There are a handful of rental car companies that are authorized to do business at Port Everglades, including some that may have shuttle service between their facilities and the cruise ship terminals. I recommend contacting your rental car company to inquire about their locations and available shuttle services to make sure.

Alternatively, you will find that most major car rental companies have a presence at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). If your rental is reserved through one of those locations, you will be able to purchase airport transfers from the cruise terminal to FLL. This is an option that my family had considered for our upcoming cruise from Fort Lauderdale. But our current thought is that we may extend our rental car a few days to cover our cruise and park the car at the cruise port terminal. That way, we'll already have convenient transportation to take us back to the airport after our cruise. In my opinion, anything to make the vacation experience as seamless and smooth as possible is worth considering.

However you get to and from your Disney cruise, I hope you have the most magical time, Julie. Please let us know if there are any other recommendations or pieces of information you'd like to hear about.

    Have a great cruise, Julie!
    ~Tony
