We are planning our first trip to Aulani in the spring. We are both seniors, and aren’t renting a car. What are the must do excursions that we can Book through the resort, and how far out can we book them and other activities such as dining and the luau?

Aloha, Robert! Thanks so much for making a return trip to planDisney. It's great to have you back! I'm always delighted to talk about one of my favorite places--Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. Your first journey beyond the reef is going to be simply amazing, and I'm happy to share some of our family's favorite experiences so you can plan for your Hawaiian adventures.

Aulani is so special to our family, as it was the site of our first vacation as Disney Vacation Club Members.  There are all sorts of activities and experiences that you can take part in during your trip! The booking dates do vary a bit, so it's great that you're getting your (Daisy) ducks in a row now so you don't miss a thing!

Robert, all of the bookings I'll discuss can be made directly through the Aulani website, or by calling the resort. Here are the details you're looking for:
    • There is a wide range of exciting excursions that depart from Aulani--no car required! These include sightseeing tours, surfing, zip-lining, and even a very cool dolphin encounter. These are managed by an outside company and can be booked online or at the desk in the resort lobby. The exact booking dates may vary depending on the specific excursion, but in some instances can be booked up to a year in advance.
    • My #1 must-do is a Pearl Harbor tour. My grandfather was stationed in Hawaii during World War II and the experience was really moving. The logistics were also a breeze--we boarded a bus at Aulani and everything went very smoothly.
    • Dining reservations can be made 30 days in advance of your check-in date. Our 'Ohana particularly loved our meals at Makahiki - The Bounty of the Islands. This onsite restaurant has a fun Character breakfast and a really special three-course dinner for Guests to enjoy.
    • Our entire family still talks about the nighttime luau KA WA'A! This don't-miss evening combines Hawaiian dance, song, stories, and food for an unforgettable experience. The luau can be booked between four and six months in advance. I took a look at the calendar today and saw reservations available through January 31, 2025.
    • The Laniwai Spa is a peaceful and relaxing oasis for Guests. The spa offers a full menu of treatments and features Oahu's only outdoor hydrotherapy garden!  Reservations for the spa open 90 days before check-in.
    • The 90-day window also applies to bookings for a cabana or casabella, so you can enjoy some privacy while you spend the day at the Waikolohe Valley pools. We spent quite a bit of time just floating in the lazy river and enjoying the views from the infinity-edge pool.
I also recommend downloading the Aulani mobile app so you can browse the Daily 'Iwa, the resort calendar that lists all of the activities happening each day. It's a great resource!

Hopefully, this information is just what you need to make plans for your sure-to-be-magical vacation, Robert! Please stop by again anytime if we can help with other questions--our planDisney 'Ohana is always here for you!

    Stay Magical!
