Planning our first trip and have a couple questions. 1. Is the magic band+ necessary? 2. Please explain how lightening lanes work. Trying to plan the most budget friendly but awesome trip for my 6 year old for his birthday. 🥳

    Welcome to planDisney, Heather!

As a mom of little ones who visits Walt Disney World Resort whenever I can, I am more than happy to share some tips and tricks with you. I want you and your kiddo to have an unforgettable birthday visit, Heather. Let’s dive right in!

I’m all about saving money at Walt Disney World. First of all, I like collecting Disney Gift Cards that I can sometimes purchase at discounts at third-party stores. Even without the discount, it’s a great way to stay on budget when at the Disney Parks.

I also like saving time at the theme parks, so I highly recommend getting familiar with the My Disney Experience App. This means that you can spend more time enjoying your moments with your family and less time looking down navigating the app. Speaking of the app, before your visit, you have the option of purchasing a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or Single Pass for your trip. Lightning Lanes are the faster attraction queues. Up to 7 days in advance (if you’re staying at an eligible hotel) or up to 3 days in advance (if you’re staying elsewhere), you can log in to the My Disney Experience App and make experience selection return time windows for your must-do attractions. Some super popular rides, like TRON Lightcycle / Run (my daredevil son loves this one), require a Lightning Lane Single Pass to enter their Lightning Lanes. Find more information about Lightning Lanes here.

While MagicBands+ are pretty amazing, and my little ones love playing around with the haptics around the Disney Parks, they are not necessary. You can also access your theme park tickets via the physical park ticket (you can get this at a ticket window or at Guest Relations), your Bluetooth-enabled Apple Watch, an older MagicBand, or your phone’s digital wallet. You can set up Disney MagicMobile on your phone by using the My Disney Experience App. Open the app, select the three horizontal lines at the bottom right corner, and select “Set Up MagicMobile Entry.” Your son can even pick out a fun design for his digital park ticket.

Heather, I’m sending pixie dust your way. I hope that you and your son have the Most Magical adventure in November. If you have any other questions about your upcoming visit, give us a holler here at planDisney.

    Magic always,
    LeAndra
