Hi Debra, welcome home and welcome to
planDisney! 5, 4, 3, 2, 1….Happy (planning for your) New Year! The
Top of the World Lounge — A Villains Lair atop
Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort could serve as a great setting for the festive celebrations, given its spectacular views of Magic Kingdom and the nighttime spectaculars. It’s definitely a fan favorite among Disney Vacation Club members anytime of the year. Now, it’s never too early to start thinking about New Year’s Eve plans, so let’s dive into your question!
Since it sounds like you may not have visited the Top of the World Lounge in awhile, here’s some helpful info about the Villains retheming of this lounge. As with other Member lounges, access to the Top of the World Lounge is restricted to members
eligible for Membership Extras. In addition, a DVC Member may bring up to 4 guests per membership or the number of guests on their Resort reservation. You can also make reservations for complimentary fireworks viewing or for the Wicked Wind Down service (I’ll explain more about that later!) by
contacting Member Services up to 60 days in advance, although certain blackout dates (such as holidays) may apply.
But if you’re unable to make a reservation, don’t fret! The Top of the World Lounge may have walk-up availability to both the lounge and the outdoor terrace areas. You can visit the podium at the entrance of the lounge on the 16th floor of Bay Lake Tower starting at 6:00PM to inquire about same-day walk-up availability.
While it’s not yet certain what DVC will plan to do for this upcoming New Year’s Eve, in the past DVC has restricted access to the lounge and outdoor terrace areas to guests staying at Bay Lake Tower. As you reach closer to the 60-day mark, I suggest calling Member Services to inquire about access to the lounge.
Debra, let’s get back to the Wicked Wind Down! This is a fun paid experience where you select an appetizer and cocktail from the Villains-themed menu and are also given a sweet dessert of the day. Those who book this experience also have access to an elevated view of the nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom from a reserved viewing area at the outdoor terrace.
Debra, I hope you find this information helpful as you begin to plan out your New Year’s Eve trip to Walt Disney World. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact
me and my fellow panelists here at planDisney!
Your pal,
Sean
