Greetings, Tina, and welcome to planDisney. I'm sorry that your son can't join you at the parks. I hope you still have a wonderful time! Let's talk about what to do with that ticket.
Generally, a theme park ticket isn’t officially assigned until it’s used to enter the park. At that point, a Cast Member will take a photo of the Guest and link it to their ticket. That photo is used for verification when re-entering the park, rather than the name on the ticket. You don't typically need to update the name on a standard theme park ticket unless you prefer to do so.
That said, if this is the
CA Resident Park Hopper Ticket, it would be a good idea to update the name. That way, whoever you give the ticket to won't run into any issues, as a government-issued photo ID is required to use this ticket for admission (to prove eligibility for this residency-based offer).
As the original ticket purchaser, you can easily update the name on a ticket by
calling the Tickets phone line. Just note that, once a ticket has been used, the name can't be changed.
Instead of gifting the ticket, you can also hold onto it. Here are some options depending on the ticket you have:
- The CA Resident Park Hopper Ticket is valid through May 21, 2026, subject to theme park reservation availability. If the timing works, just modify the reservations to visit during these next couple of months. If this ticket remains wholly unused and expires, you can apply the amount you paid for the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket of equal or greater value. That can jumpstart your tickets for the next visit! You can do this by calling the Tickets phone line.
- If you have standard multi-day tickets, there is usually a pretty good window to use them. If I purchase a multi-day ticket today, for example, I'd have until January 12, 2028 to use it. Keep in mind that, once you use the first day of a standard multi-day ticket, it's valid for 13 days. You should be able to see the expiration date on the ticket in the Disneyland mobile app. You can choose to save it and update the reservations once you have another trip planned. Or, if this ticket expires without being used, you can also apply the value you paid toward the purchase of a new ticket of equal or greater value.
Tina, I hope this information is helpful to you as you figure out how you'd like to handle this ticket. I hope you have a fantastic time visiting the Disneyland Resort. You picked a good time to visit, with the
70th Celebration activities in full swing and the
Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival just kicking off.
If you have any questions while at the park, you can stop by one of the
Guest Relations spots or use the chat feature in the Disneyland mobile app. Of course, you can also come back to planDisney – we're always happy to help!
Wishing you magic,
Kriss
