Visiting magic kingdom for 1st time Jan 02/03-2025. We have a 4 & 7yr old girls who both prefer “tame” rides (no big drops or crazy spins)! We only have 2 days! What is a recommended itinerary? Not eligible for premiere passes. Like shows as well.

    Welcome, Joni!

I'm thrilled to help craft your perfect Magic Kingdom Park itinerary. There is so much to see and do at this quintessential Disney destination, just know that you can't possibly experience everything on a single visit. But let's see if we can point you in the right direction.

My children were about the same age the first time they visited Walt Disney World Resort, and as such, we spent a lot of time on classic Fantasyland attractions. Peter Pan's Flight is still one of our first stops and would be a fun "dark ride" introduction. I mention this because our daughter had never experienced an indoor ride before Disney and took a little time to adjust to the experience. The ride itself has no scary drops or spins, you'll just be floating past some familiar movie scenes on your journey in the dark. Wait times tend to be high so we either head straight there at "rope drop" or save it until crowds begin to thin a bit after the fireworks.

You'll also want to tackle "it's a small world," a classic attraction that showcases the differences and ultimate unity of people around the globe via a peaceful, 10-minute musical boat ride. Dumbo the Flying Elephant is another gentle attraction that will have you soaring after a stop in an interactive play area within the queue. If your girls are feeling brave they might want to try The Barnstormer, too. Since it's a pretty short ride, it's a great way to gauge their thrill level and is often chosen as the first roller-coaster experience for many children. Before heading out of Fantasyland, I'd also recommend The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Under the Sea- Journey of the Little Mermaid (tucked back past Seven Dwarfs Mine Train on the way to Gaston's Tavern).

Be sure to use the My Disney Experience Mobile App to filter experiences to suit your family's preferences. Simply navigate to the map icon (second from left on the bottom of the app) select "Attractions" from the drop-down menu and click "Filter" to choose Magic Kingdom Park. Just below that, you'll see "Thrill Factor" with options to select "Slow Rides," "Small Drops," "Big Drops," etc.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my all-time favorite attractions (listed as a "Small Drop") and features a single drop right after the scene with a pirate skeleton steering a ship's wheel. The rest of the journey is smooth sailing with some fun pirate antics sprinkled along the voyage. Haunted Mansion, my other favorite, is listed as "Slow" but is a bit spooky, as you'd imagine. Both are classic experiences you won't want to miss, but I'd work your way up to them after seeing how your girls do at other attractions.

Enchanted Tales with Belle and Mickey's PhilharMagic would be great shows to check out, and you can't miss seeing the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade make its way down Main Street, U.S.A. You can also view Character meeting times and locations by selecting "Characters" instead of "Attractions" from the drop-down menu within the app. Princess Fairytale Hall is a must-visit!

Spend the rest of your time soaking in the atmosphere of Adventureland and Tomorrowland to see what strikes your interest. Before the end of your visit, you absolutely must watch Happily Ever After light the skies over Cinderella Castle. It's my favorite nighttime spectacular and a perfect way to close out your trip with a sprinkle of pixie dust, and maybe even a tear in your eye.

    Magic and memories,
    Amy
