Wanted to know how long I have if I need to cancel a resort reservation to get full refund if need to?

Welcome to planDisney, Kathy! I'm so glad to be able to answer your question today. The cancellation policy at Walt Disney World depends on the type of reservation you made, specifically whether it's a vacation package that includes your Disney Resort Hotel and tickets together, or a room-only booking. Since you didn't mention what kind of reservation you have, I'll cover both, so let's jump right in!

If you've booked a vacation package, you can cancel and receive a full refund of everything you've paid so far as long as you do it at least 30 days before your scheduled arrival. For example, if you're intending to arrive on August 2nd, you would have had to cancel by July 3rd to receive a full refund of your deposit and any amount you've paid. However, if you cancel between 2 and 29 days before the trip, which is the window you're in right now, you'll forfeit your $200 deposit, but you'll still receive back anything you paid beyond that. Canceling one day before check-in or on the day of arrival means the cost becomes non-refundable.

If you're thinking about making changes to your vacation package instead of canceling, no problem, just know that things like changing your travel dates, Resort Hotel, or number of guests are subject to availability and current pricing. Also, if you make any changes within 30 days of arrival, a $50 change fee will apply. All of the above timeframes and fees I mentioned are subject to change, so be sure to consult your booking documents for the most up-to-date information.

If you booked a room-only reservation, the policy is a bit simpler. You can cancel and receive your full deposit back if you do so at least 8 days prior to check-in. After that, the deposit becomes non-refundable.

If you're not sure what kind of reservation you have, you can typically find that info in your confirmation email or by checking in the My Disney Experience app. Of course, if you need a little bit of extra help, a quick phone call to Disney Resort Hotel Reservations and Tickets should clear everything up!

    Have a magical day, Kathy!
