"When is the best time to use your DVC points?"
Jerry: The Disney Vacation Club enthusiast in me says the best time to use your DVC Vacation Points is, well, as often as you can! I sometimes joke that my aspiration is to become a PDG — a Permanent Disney Guest! On a practical note, it's really helpful to understand the idea behind DVC "seasons" and how you can best plan your DVC vacations to get the most stays for your vacation Points.
Seasons are grouped as "Adventure," "Choice," "Dream," "Magic," and "Premier." You can find a Resort’s Points Chart by clicking on the “View Points Charts & Calculator” link on the Resort’s page on the DVC website. The Vacation Points Chart will show, for example, that a Standard View Deluxe Studio at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort requires 14 points per night Sunday to Thursday during Adventure Season, while the same accommodation requires 25 points during Premier Season. So if you have flexibility in when you vacation, you can optimize your Vacation Points — either more nights or larger accommodations — by using the Vacation Points Chart and its seasons to plan your DVC stay.
In our own DVC vacation planning, for example, we planned a Monday - Wednesday get-away at Disney's BoardWalk Villas to enjoy the Epcot International Festival of the Arts and the Disney on Broadway Concert Series. That stay required fewer points than if we'd planned it for a weekend. And it was such a simple and perfect stay. We checked-in, strolled Disney's BoardWalk for breakfast and coffee, and headed straight to the Festival where we sampled Festival foods around Epcot World Showcase, staged ourselves in all the fun classic Festival art frames, and later enjoyed front-row seats for the Disney on Broadway series where Broadway stars from Disney's The Lion King performed. Music from The Lion King played a leading role in our wedding, so the night was especially fun. For other DVC vacation stays, like those planned for runDisney events, the race event scheduling requires weekend stays.
That flexibility in planning is one of the features I love about our DVC Membership. So for us, as a family, when it comes to using DVC points, the best time is any time you want to make memories to cherish.
