My Favorite Extras as a Disney Vacation Club Member
I was talking to another mom at school recently, when I mentioned in passing that we were a family of Disney Vacation Club Members. And do you know what she said?
She blurted out, "Does that mean you're all, like, Mouseketeers?"
So, as I took a few minutes to share what it means to be a DVC Member –– and sure, I may also have been picturing my kids lined up in those iconic turtlenecks and Mickey ears –– I got to thinking of all the unique and exciting opportunities that Disney Vacation Club Members get to enjoy. Because as much as I love staying in world-class, luxury accommodations, getting great discounts on dining and merchandise, and experiencing Disney magic year after year (I really do), there are also a whole host of Member events, spaces, and experiences that are available exclusively to my family as Disney Vacation Club Members.
If you ask me, when it comes to Member-exclusive opportunities, Disney Vacation Club's Moonlight Magic events are about as cool as it gets. These incredible after-hours events are held several times a year, exclusively for Members and their guests, at one of the four Walt Disney World theme parks. For a few hours after the park closes to the general public, Members can enjoy shorter wait times for popular attractions, nosh on plenty of snacks, and there might just be a few surprises as the night goes on. In the past, attendees have even received limited-edition popcorn buckets created just for these events. And the best part? They're completely free (seriously, how often in life can you say that?!). In fact, I'm planning to attend my very first Moonlight Magic event at Disney's Animal Kingdom later this summer and I can't wait to finally experience this piece of Membership magic for myself!
Another fantastic perk available just to Members are the two Member-exclusive spaces at Walt Disney World Resort –– the EPCOT Member Lounge, located in EPCOT's Imagination! Pavilion, and the newly refurbished Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair, located in Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. While each of these lounges has a unique vibe, they're both perfect for Members to kick back and relax during a Walt Disney World visit. My family really enjoys stopping in the EPCOT Member Lounge for a break from the crowds during a busy EPCOT festival day. We love to sip on a complimentary soft drink and relax in the comfy, air-conditioned atmosphere, while we take a few minutes to recharge our devices –– and feet –– for the rest of our day. And as for Top of the World Lounge, I can't think of a better end to a Disney day than with a visit to this swanky, intimate spot for drinks and appetizers, before stepping out on the observation deck to enjoy a breathtaking view of the fireworks over Cinderella Castle.
Member-exclusive events? Check. Unique spaces just for Members to enjoy? Check and check. But the Membership magic doesn't end there. Members can also take advantage of special opportunities around Walt Disney World Resort and beyond –– like booking a Disney Vacation Club Enchantment Fireworks Cruise around the Seven Seas Lagoon, engaging in some friendly competition during Member Nights at Splitsville Luxury Lanes, and enjoying an exclusive live show and character dance party at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. Plus, you even have the opportunity to set sail with Disney Cruise Line for a Members-only adventure on the high seas (which just so happens to be at the top of my DVC Dream List). Later this year, I'm planning to book an Enchantment Fireworks Cruise to celebrate my nephew's high school graduation, which will be another first for our family. And to be honest, that might just be the best Member Benefit of all –– because no matter how many experiences we've had in our 20 years as DVC Members, there's always a new and exciting way for my family to sprinkle some extra Membership magic on our Disney vacations!
